Kiwis and Kangaroos

David Morris, national director of the Australian Republican Movement (ARM) and Lewis Holden, chair of the New Zealand Republican Movement, Sydney 2012.

I've been in Sydney for the past week on business, so on Wednesday morning I had breakfast with David Morris and Grant Parker of the Australian Republican Movement (ARM)

It was great to meet with our Australian counterparts and discuss our respective campaigns. David recently took up the newly re-created role of National Director. A former diplomat, David's background points to a strong understanding of the underlying reasons for an Australian republic: facing our geopolitical reality as a country in the Asia-Pacific region. We discussed the Republican Movement's draft policy statement and the constitutional review, and the prospects for the ARM's own two-stage process for an Australian republic.
