Civics education: New Zealand "average"

An international report called the International Civic and Citizenship Study has found New Zealand students are only average when it comes to civics education. This is no surprise - the Republican Movement has long argued for better civics education. Back in 2000 we argued for better civics education at the Constitution Conference. In 2005, the Constitutional Review stated that "A first step must be to foster more widespread understanding of the practical implications of New Zealand's current constitutional arrangements and the implications of any change." Sadly, no action has been taken - and so we end up with results like this one.
