Constitutional review: four-year terms?
Andy Nichols writes in The Dominion Post in favour of four-year terms. Interestingly, a poll associated with the article states that a majority (at the time of writing) support four-year terms. Obviously, the Republican Movement takes no view on the term of parliament, but the article raises an important point.
The constitutional review allows issues that otherwise wouldn't be aired to be discussed. Four year-terms is one such issue - although, as Andy points out, the change has been defeated twice at separate referendums. At least they had a chance. Third time lucky perhaps?
