Introducing our draft policy statement
Back last June, Lewis blogged about formalising the Movement's policy position. At last October's AGM, it was agreed the Executive would prepare a draft document setting out our policies for discussion. On Waitangi Day earlier this week, we formally published a draft policy statement for public discussion. In a series of posts, I will describe and summarise what we've developed for readers, in order to make it a little more comprehensible.
In addition to the policy statement, we have a page dedicated to our policies, which is available here.
Our statement is broken into three sections. The first sets out the Movement's four principles and objectives, which can be read here. The second section deals with our framework for a republic, while the third sets out a process of referenda through which we believe our framework should be introduced.
I'll summarise each of the two sections with a series of posts. The first of Series 1, which concerns our framework for a republic, can be read here. The first of Series 2, which concerns the process we propose for NZ becoming a republic, is here. We welcome any comments our readers have on our statement. This is a chance for you to influence what we are looking to do for New Zealand.
