Republic of the Seychelles

The Royal honeymooners are (apparently) honeymooning in the Republic of the Seychelles. The Seychelles is one of the 32 republics within the Commonwealth of Nations. The country is an example of how not to do things - following independence from the United Kingdom in 1976, there was a coup followed by a long period of socialist rule. Post cold-war the Seychelles is gradually moving towards a more democratic system of government.

Currently, the Seychelles has a presidential system of government. Prior to the 1977 coup the Seychelles had a parliamentary system with a non-executive head of state. The coup put paid to that - largely thanks to a communist-bloc backed president.

Lewis, is there anything to note of the country's shift back to a democratic republic?  Have they adopted a new constitution?

The socialist's backers ran out of money... although they're still in power.
