Legislation

This section looks at the key legal instruments establishing the monarchy, all of which are important in the republic debate. We provide an analysis the Constitution Act 1986, the Letters Patent 1983, and various other Acts of Parliament. We also provide an analysis of these Acts, and how they might be amended should New Zealand become a republic.

Opinions

This section contains the opinions of New Zealanders in the New Zealand republic debate. The opinions in this section do not necessarily represent the official views of the Republican Movement, but they are provided to highlight some of the different viewpoints in the debate.

Policy papers, reports and submissions

This page presents a number of our policy papers and reports, covering the building the constitution conference, Youth Parliament reports for 2000 and 2004. This section will expand over time.

This page looks at the long history of republicanism in New Zealand, from flagpoles to political polls.

Polling on the republic

This is a reference page of the polls on the republic issue, and related polls. There are three key factors that determine the outcome of polls: first; the question being asked, second; the sample and its size, and third the actual public opinion being sought.
