Today's edition of The Dominion Post has two (short) letters to the editor regarding an editorial the other day titled 'Bidding farewell to the Queen'. First is the letter I wrote:
Your call for New Zealand’s political leaders to show leadership on the republic was timely. Helen Clark recently told the BBC there was no interest in the debate. Polls show the opposite - support for the monarchy is falling. In an election year, our political parties should articulate their policies on democracy and national identity.
LEWIS HOLDEN, Chairman, Republican Movement of NZ
And another, not-so-positive letter:Â
I refer to your editorial on a republic. Let it go.
N WALKER, Hawera
Not sure what the point was there. Nevermind.
