August 2000: The Youth Parliament established a select committee to investigate the establishment of a New Zealand republic. Their report shows that the committee was split evenly over whether New Zealand should become a republic, but agreed that further work should be done on the role of treaty and that the issue should be decided by a two-stage referendum -- similar to that used for MMP.
Constitutional Conference
