Review:

As a writer for the Guardian and a former BBC radio presenter, Freedland knows how to present his case and this is an extremely readable manifesto for a new Britain. Freedland highly values America's political sovereignty and approvingly quotes Thomas Paine's immortal words that a hereditary governing class was 'as absurd as an hereditary mathematician...and as ridiculous as an hereditary poet laureate.' Freedland's strength is in his analysis of how British and American society differ and how this can be traced back to America's political roots - although he certainly notes the pitfalls of modern America.
