Policy statement
The Republican Movement's policy statement is our principle document defining what we're campaigning for. The fundamental questions of the decision to become a republic, the type of republic, how the head of state will be elected and the powers of the head of state should all be decided at a referendums.
The policy statement came about as a result of a remit at our 2011 AGM, following discussions about our submission to the forthcoming constitutional review.
In January 2012 we drafted our first policy statement which was circulated among members for consultation. Following further changes, we published the draft policy statement on Waitangi Day 2012 for public discussion.
