ARM 2008 National Republican Lecture - Live on the Internet

The Australian Republican Movement are holding their annual lecture tonight in Canberra. This year's lecture will be given by Julie Bishop MP, the federal deputy leader of the Liberal Party.

The ARM has announced that for the first time the National Republican Lecture will be available for viewing live on the Internet. The lecture itself starts at 6:30 AEST, which is 8:30 NZST. Instructions are available here (PDF).

Bruce Jesson Lecture 2008 - Mike Lee

The Bruce Jesson Foundation is holding its annual lecture on Monday 6th October at the Maidment Theatre, University of Auckland.

ARC Chair, Jesson Foundation trustee and long time friend of Bruce Mike Lee will deliver the lecture this year. Previous lectures have been given by Laila Harré, Gordon Campbell, Colin James, Professor Ani Mikaere and David Lange.

New Zealand's Secular Heritage Conference

Republican Movement chair Lewis Holden will be speaking at a conference this month on New Zealand's secular heritage.

When: 9.00 am until 5.30 pm - Saturday 30 August

Where: Lecture Theatre 2, Rutherford House, Pipitea Campus, Victoria University of Wellington, (Near the Railway Station).

Who: other speakers include:

  • Lloyd Geering, Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University of Wellington;
  • Max Wallace of the National Secular Association of Australia;
  • Bill Cooke of the New Zealand Association of Rationalists and Humanists; and
  • Iain Middleton of the Humanist Society of New Zealand.

A moderated panel session will follow the presentations.
