    We are Committed To Your Privacy

    1. The New Zealand Republic Inc (NZR) is committed to safeguarding your privacy. The information provided here will help you understand the way we collect, hold, use and store your personal information.

    How We Collect Information - Browsing Our Website

    2. We don’t collect personally identifiable information on our website or other online channels unless you voluntarily choose to provide it to us it to us. When you browse republic.org.nz, we receive the name of your internet service provider, your browser, the device you’re using, the site that referred you to us, the pages you visit and the date and time you visit. We don’t collect your name or other personal information.

    What Personal Information We Collect From You And How We Use It

    5. If you opt in to our e-news, we collect your name, email address and postcode. We use this information to provide you with republican campaign news and information about local events and to help us understand more about the effective use of our communications channels.

    6. If you become an NZR member, the minimum information we collect is your name, email address, postal address and banking details. Our membership form requests additional demographic information such as occupation and gender.

We use this information to provide you with campaign news and information about local events and your membership, to help us understand more about the effective use of our communications channels and campaign progress, to identify improvements, and to report internally and externally on the campaign's achievements.

    8. NZR holds personal information in our electronic records including third party cloud computing services.

    9. Information is used only for the purpose for which it was disclosed. NZR uses security measures to protect against unauthorised access to your information or unauthorised alteration, disclosure or destruction of it. NZR maintains security measures to guard against unauthorised access to systems where we store personal information and conducts internal reviews of our data collection, storage and processing practices and security. 

    Who Has Access To Your Personal Information

    10. We do not and will not sell or rent mailing lists or any other personally identifiable information to any third party.

    11. Only NZR employees, officers and volunteers who need to access personal information to perform a specific task are granted access to personally identifiable information. They are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement before this access is authorised.

    12. While NZR makes every endeavour to protect your personal details from third party observation, it will not be liable in the event of a security breach resulting from unauthorised access to the NZR's membership and other information.  All financial transactions conducted through the NZR website are undertaken solely at the user's risk.

    13. NZR sometimes hires other companies to perform certain functions. Examples of such functions include mailing information, maintaining databases, and processing payments. When we employ another company to perform a function of this nature, we take precautions to provide them with the information that they need to perform their specific function.

    14. NZR may disclose your Personal Information if required to do so by law. 

    Our Contact With You

    15. We will never send you unsolicited material as a result of participating in a petition or activity. If you sign up as a member or sign a petition, you may be given the option to participate in future activities, to receive further information, or to be invited to contribute to NZR.  You will always be given the option to decline.

    16. All NZR employees, officers and volunteers who handle personal information are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.  Our employees, officers and volunteers are notified and reminded about the importance we place on privacy, and what they can do to ensure our supporters' and members’ information is protected.

    Obtaining Access To Or Correcting Personal Information NZR Holds About You

    17. You may ask us to provide you with details of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us. We will respond to your request and attempt to provide you with the data within 30 days of receipt of your request. If we refuse to provide you access or correct your personal information, we will provide you with written reasons for our refusal.

    18. If you believe that the personal information NZR holds about you may be incorrect or out of date, please contact us and we will rectify any errors.

    NZR will take any complaint of a privacy violation extremely seriously and will promptly investigate it.

    Our privacy and security measures and this policy are reviewed on a regular basis. This policy was authorised by the NZR Executive on 8 February 2020.

    Social Media and Comments Policy

    We welcome and encourage comments on our social media pages or accounts and on our website.

    We do not discriminate against any views, but will delete any of the following as time permits:

    • violent, obscene, profane, hateful, or racist comments

    • comments that threaten or harm the reputation of any person or organisation

    • advertisements or solicitations of any kind

    • comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity

    • multiple off-topic posts or repetitive posts that are copied and pasted

    • personal information including, but not limited to, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, mailing addresses, or identification numbers

    In short: be nice and add to the discussion.

    If you continually violate this policy, we may limit or block your ability to comment in the future.
